Human rights and SDGs

Sioen supports Human Rights through SDGs, taking the OHCHR as general guideline in all its operations.

ISO 14001:2015

Sioen is ISO 14001 certified, which means that we’ve implemented an environmental management system (EMS).

Products for agriculture, seagriculture and fishing

Sioen produces fabrics and protective garments for farmers, seagriculture and fishing, thus contributing to the production of food for all.

Award: Blue Biodiversity

Blue innovation award shows Sioen contribution to coastal protection measures to offset to the influences of climate change, such as rising sea levels.

Award: wave breaker

Our client, Jel-Tom in Croatia used our technical textiles to produce an award-winning wave breaker. It not only protects the coastline, but also generates electricity from the sun and the force of the sea.

Blue Cluster

Sioen contributes to blue growth. Sioen is part of the Blue Cluster and works towards sustainable seas and marine and towards coastal biodiversity.

Ursuit garments at Vendée Globe

Vendée Globe, the toughest sporting race on the planet. 33 skippers will be attending the race this year. Over half of these competitors will be wearing Ursuit drysuits and thermal clothing during the race. Original pic by Isabelle Joschke

Award: Dame Award

Our drysuit model, the Ursuit Gemino Navigator received a special mention in the clothing and crew accessories category in the DAME Design Awards. It's the ultimate two-piece suit for sailing and for other maritime activities.

Ursuit eco bathing suit for training

"Extreme long lasting training suit made of a technologically advanced, sustainable fabric combining the an elastomeric fiber and a 100% recycled polyamide yarn derived from post consumer materials."

Ursuit Warm n' Cool range

Recycled materials are used when available, and we are exploring the possibilities to expand the usage of sustainable materials. For example, the elastic fleece and the carrying bag of the Warm n' Cool are using recycled plastic.

ISO 26000:2010

ISO 26000:2010 serves as one of the guidelines in our social responsibility strategy, as attested in the NPR-9026-c1-2012.

Supporting a wind farm in the Phillipines

Our Brand Dimension Polyant combines the Clean Oceans project with a Gold Standard climate protection project, a wind farm in the Philippines, to achieve certified emission reduction. With every ton of CO2, 10 kg plastic waste is compensated.

Supporting ‘Plastic Free Oceans'

The project we support with our brand Dimension-Polyant to compensate all remaining emissions, prevents plastic waste from entering the sea and thus indirectly protects the climate.

Fabrics for reef protection

There's care needed to preserve and protect coral reefs during dredging activities. We produce fabrics that are used to protect the reef from mud and blown sand. The first type of fabric serves as a curtain, the latter keeps these curtains affloat.

Biobased and biodegradable

Sioen’s R&D team searches for biobased and biodegradable solutions and takes part in a range of EU projects.

Seaweed cultivation

Our R&D team is actively looking for sustainable aquaculture solutions. As part of the EU AT~SEA project, Sioen developed textile mats and nets on which seaweed can be cultivated. The fabric has been deployed and tested in Norway and Ireland.
