Dimension-Polyant, part of the Sioen Group, is compliant with the ISO 50001 standards
ISO 50001
ISO 50001 is an international standard created by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). The standard specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system, whose purpose is to enable an organisation to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy security, energy use and consumption.
Reasons for the ISO 50001 certification
The main goal of the standard is to improve energy-related execution and energy proficiency consistently and to distinguish energy reduction opportunities. This methodical approach will assist associations with setting up frameworks and processes.
A consistent energy management system enables companies to improve energy-related performance, and it can discover ways to find energy reduction opportunities.
What is an energy management system
According to the ISO 50001 brochure published by ISO, “an energy management system helps organisations better manage their energy use, thus improving productivity. It involves developing and implementing an energy policy, setting achievable targets for energy use, and designing action plans to reach them and measure progress.
This might include implementing new energy-efficient technologies, reducing energy waste or improving current processes to cut energy costs. ISO 50001 gives organisations a recognised framework for developing an effective energy management system.”
Benefits of certification
- Saves your company money
- Shows your public commitments to energy management
- Creates structured methods for identifying energy indicators to reduce the overall cost
- Reduces and helps to manage energy usage
- Continuously improves energy-efficient technology
- Reduces carbon emissions (reduction of output of CO₂)
Certification
ISO 50001 is applied because of the internal and external benefits it brings to the company. It provides benefits not only to the company but also to its customers and partners.
ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is an independent, international organisation made up of 161 national standardisation bodies. Through these bodies, they draw up market-relevant, international standards. These standards support innovation and provide solutions to problems/challenges in the various markets.
SDGs
Having a ISO 50001 certification can be linked to two SDGs: "Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all" (SDG 7) and "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation" (SDG 9).
By constantly analysing the energy management system and keeping it up to date, Dimension-Polyant helps to realise targets 7.1 ("Ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services"), 7.2 ("Significantly increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix") and 7.3 ("Double the overall rate of improvement in energy efficiency").
In addition, Dimension-Polyant also helps to reach target 9.4 ("Modernising infrastructure and adapting industries to make them sustainable, focusing on greater resource efficiency and cleaner and environmentally friendly technologies and industrial processes, with all countries taking the necessary action according to their own respective capabilities").
