Sioen apparel production plants in OAR

The Sioen apparel production plants that are STeP certified, are also listed in the OAR, the Open Apparel Registry. The OAR has the ambition to become a trusted supplier directory for cross-platform collaboration and data-exchange. At Sioen, we’re convinced that transparency and sharing supply chain information contributes to a better society and environment.

What is OAR?

The Open Apparel Registry (OAR) is an open source map and database of global apparel facilities, their affiliations and unique OAR IDs assigned to each facility. The list of searchable facilities in the OAR is compiled from lists submitted by contributors. The application uses statistical text analysis to compare newly submitted items to the existing list of facilities in an attempt to automatically match highly similar items.

OAR provides credentials and can be used to

  • Update and standardise facility names and addresses against the database
  • Understand affiliations of current and prospect facilities to identify opportunities for collaboration
  • Find potential new suppliers, listed with their credentials and affiliations
  • Leverage the OAR ID as a unique and shared ID across software systems and databases

Why Sioen participates?

Sioen is STeP certified and this implies that we’re engaging to be registered in the Open Apparel Registry (OAR). This initiative of STeP has multiple objectives:

  • Increase visibility of STeP certified facilities and OEKO TEX®
  • Easier identification of the production facilities by use of the “OAR ID”
  • Support collaboration with brands and facilities

The mission of the Open Apparel Registry is to maintain an open-source, neutral and publicly accessible database of every facility in the global apparel and footwear sector, for the purposes of enabling industry collaboration and improved identification of factories. This improved identification will be facilitated by the unique OAR ID allocated to each facility.

Goal

The OAR is not owned by any organization. It is a neutral, non-profit organisation, with a multi-stakeholder Board of Directors representing civil society, the open data sector, factory groups, industry MSIs and brands. The OAR is funded by the Laudes Foundation (formerly C&A Foundation) and developed by Azavea, a geospatial software firm and certified B Corporation based in Philadelphia.
