Energy has become a C-suite topic.

Due to changing context in which we operate influenced by environmental, social, and business trends, global carbon regulation and increased energy prices, energy has become increasingly important and energy strategy has become a must.

Our ambition

How we manage the environmental and climate impacts of our energy use and consequently of our carbon emissions, is an increasingly important differentiator for all our major stakeholders. The evolving carbon regulations and fluctuating energy costs and availability are sources of risk, because of which Sioen put in place an energy team to address this strategic issue and develop a plan to mitigate risk.

Reducing energy use

We’re set on reducing energy use on all levels, in production but also in energy-efficient new construction projects, additional insulation of walls and roofs, and motion sensor switches in the offices and public areas. We’ve implemented energy efficiency methods for a systematic approach on the identification and realisation of energy efficiency improvement opportunities.

Recuperate energy more

We’re set on recuperating energy throughout our value chain. We’re optimising our infrastructure and machinery. The energy that is generated in production is captured and used for preheating the ovens, which drastically reduces gas consumption. Recovered energy is energy that would otherwise be discarded. We recover energy in all our production plants. It’s the process of capturing hot exhaust to drive a turbine and create electricity.

Producing, buying and facilitating renewable energy

We’re set on using and generating renewable energy. We have solar panels on our production sites, we purchase green energy and our products are increasingly applied in windmills and biogas installations. We’re sourcing only green electricity. We do not exclude any renewable resource and examine the renewable energy of sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat, among others.

Sustainable development goals

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
